Capt. Kelly Elmlinger, from Attica, Ohio, entered the military in 1998 and was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. She deployed three times with 82nd Airborne Division in support of Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom during her enlisted career. In 2010, Elmlinger graduated from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing and was stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. After her commission, Elmlinger cared for Wounded Warriors working on the orthopedic unit at Brooke Army Medical Center.

In 2013, Capt. Elmlinger was diagnosed with a rare synovial sarcoma tumor in her left lower leg. She completed multiple limb salvage surgeries leaving her with loss of function in her leg and residual nerve damage. Currently, Capt. Elmlinger has been in remission for two years.

Capt. Elmlinger will complete her Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration this September. She is a single parent to a beautiful and energetic six-year-old daughter. Additionally, Elmlinger aspires to make the National team in track and potentially a spot on the 2016 Paralympic Team.

For Capt. Elmlinger, participating in the Warrior Games is a way to honor those service members lost on deployments.

“It is a privilege to be selected and represent Team Army. These games are a way for me to publically thank my family, friends and many others who supported me in restoring my health.”
