Staff Sgt. Robert Green’s personal goals are first and foremost to be a better father, then make the USA sitting volleyball team. He also wants to finish his bachelor’s degree in business management. With this degree, he hopes to either open his own business and become a manager or start a non-profit organization to help children of fallen or injured service members.

Staff Sgt. Green credits the Warrior Transition Unit at Fort Sam Houston, Texas for giving him the resources to become a better person and to be resilient. “They taught me that through injuries and setbacks, if you put your mind to it, you can and will succeed,” he said. “Have the will and the desire to be the best that you can be and use the injuries or illness that you have to your advantage. When I say use it to your advantage, I mean that I show my kids and others that anything is possible that you set your mind to. You may not be able to things the same way, but by adapting, anything is possible and obtainable. Lastly, the WTU brought me closer to other service members who might be going through the same things that I am going through,” said Green.

According to Green, Adaptive Reconditioning helped him find new ways to compete, stay healthy, and gave him back the drive and will to survive he thought he had lost.

“The 2015 DoD Warrior Games is an opportunity to show others what it is to have teamwork, what it means to live the Army values and that no matter your injury or illness, whether it is visible or not, dreams can and still do come true.”
