Spc. Stefan LeRoy hails from Santa Rosa, California. He deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom with the 82nd Airborne Division in February 2012. While serving as a19D (Cavalry Scout), Spc. LeRoy stepped on an improvised explosive device while carrying a fellow soldier to a medevac helicopter. He instantly became a double leg amputee and was medevaced back to the U.S. for medical treatment.

Spc. LeRoy has been recovering at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda and is participating in adaptive sports. Spc. LeRoy has run two 5ks since starting to run four months ago. He has also handcycled several Ride2Recovery challenges and marathons.
