October 1, 2014

Colorado Springs, Colorado – The U.S Army won the first team medal of the 2014 Warrior Games presented by Deloitte as they beat Air Force in the sitting volleyball bronze medal game.

Army beat Air Force 2-0 (25-20, 25-19).

Army also took the top spots in the archery competition as they won four medals, including two golds in the team events.

Retired Cpt. Frank Barroqueiro (Brick, New Jersey) served as Army’s team captain and won silver in the individual compound and gold in the team compound.

“Archery is my favorite event, and I especially love the team event because we can all feed off one another,” Barroquiero said. “We are all combat wounded guys, so there’s a lot of relation between what we used to do in the training aspect. This is my second Warrior Games, and it’s been great to be back competing.”

In a rematch of the 2013 gold medal game, Army and Marines faced each other in wheelchair basketball. While the Army came out on top in 2013, the Marines were a dominant force tonight, as they beat the Army 42-21. The Marines will advance to Friday night’s gold medal game. Navy beat Air Force 28-20, to give the Air Force a 4th place finish in the tournament. The Navy will play Army on Thursday in the bronze medal game.

  • Army: 34 (11 gold, 14 silver, 9 bronze)
  • Marine Corps: 24 (12 gold, 8 silver, 4 bronze)
